My name is Joseph Waugh I am a badminton player, born in 2001. I started playing badminton aged eight and I am the first player from Hertfordshire to represent England internationally in the under fifteen age group.
In 2012, I started to train at a Badminton England Performance Centre. Since 2012 , I have played very regularly on the national circuit, with the aim of improving my national ranking so that I would be selected to represent England at international tournaments.
In September 2014, I represented England internationally for the first time in the Irish Open (which is part of the Badminton Europe junior circuit) and reached the second round of the singles and the Quarter-finals of the Boys doubles.
This year (2016) I have been accumulating more national ranking points on the Badminton England circuit and later this year I will be representing England at the Irish U19 Open and the Swedish U17 open, these tournaments will further improve my European ranking. As a badminton player my ultimate goal is to medal at the Olympic games in the future.
After competing on the world circuit in September 2016, I am now internationally ranked in the top 5 British junior players.
I am training with my County squad as well as Badminton England Performance centre, and at the end of October I have a Team GB Fitness assessment.
In the spring of 2017 I took part in a Badminton England national tournament and reached the quarterfinal stage. I am competing in a number of these tournaments over the summer now that I have moved up to the Under 18 age group.
In September, I am hoping to compete in the Irish and Belgian junior internationals to boost my European ranking.
